Guilderland High School music ensembles to perform in school concert

The Guilderland High School Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Choir will perform in the annual GHS Winter Concert. These groups are comprised of the finest musicians in Guilderland High School; students must audition to become a member of these ensembles. As a result of their talent and hard work, all of the ensembles have won numerous accolades at NYSSMA festivals and other competitions.

Tonight, the ensembles will present a program of standard symphonic and choral repertoire. The Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Susan Curro, will perform works by Rossini, Mozart, and Saint-Saёns. The Wind Ensemble, conducted by Ms. Kathleen Ehlinger, will feature clarinetists Angelo Amore and William Wang, and will also perform selections from the musical Les Miserables.

To conclude the concert, the Concert Choir, conducted by Mrs. Rae Jean Teeter, will perform selected movements from Carmina Burana, a choral cantata based on medieval poems. Eliana Rowe, a member of the Concert Choir, says “the piece shows the circle of life and emotions. Some of the movements are very joyous and upbeat while some are dark and ominous.” The work is one of the most beloved and well-known pieces in the choral repertoire. The Concert Choir prepared this piece after being invited to perform it with the Empire State Youth Orchestra (ESYO) and three other local high school choirs. They will perform the piece in its entirety with ESYO on January 25th at the Palace Theatre.

The concert is tonight at 7:30 in the Guilderland High School Auditorium. No tickets are required.
